Computerized Tomography (CT)

Computed Tomography (CT) scanning is a rapid, painless diagnostic examination that combines both x-rays and computer technology. A CT scan allows the radiologist to see the location, nature, and extent of many different diseases or abnormalities inside your body.
Multiple low-dose x-rays are taken in sequence by a rotating x-ray tube. All you need to do is lie still on a table for approximately 10-15 minutes. The table will move you through a gantry (shaped like a big donut - see image, left) which houses the x-ray tube and a set of detectors. Images are acquired by detectors that pick-up the x-ray passing through your body. The computer processes this information to form a sequential image that the radiologist will review and interpret.

Some CT studies require a contrast agent to enhance the pictures taken of your body. You will receive special instructions in advance from us if your exam requires you to consume an oral contrast agent or if intravenous contrast will be administered during the exam.

TRICAT continues to strive to make technology clinically relevant! At Tricat we utilize a state-of-the-art GE HiSPeed FX/i, as well as a Philips 16 Slice scanner, affording a new level of technology in diagnostics and allowing us to perform the full range of routine clinical procedures with ease, as well as more advanced and complex scanning techniques.

Our scanners are high resolution, whole body computed tomography scanner capable of 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 second standard scan times and provides for rapid scanning in the form of helical and cluster scanning. A few of the advantages of helical scanning include the ability to capture contrast during peak opacification and the ability to cover anatomy quickly for regular and trauma patients. Each scan can be completed in seconds, which translates into less time on the table for the patient and faster interpretation of the results for the physician –– rapid assessment leads to faster diagnosis and treatment. Few facilities in our area are presently offering these exceptional services. Patient comfort, personalized attention, quality technology and a top notch professional radiological and technical staff are always of the utmost importance at TRICAT.
