Computerized Tomography (CT)

Realizing that osteoporosis is affecting an alarming number of adults in the United States, TRICAT has added Bone Densitometry, or DEXA Scanning, to our already extensive list of services provided. This procedure is non-invasive and allows for the measurement of bone mass, which is crucial in early detection of osteoporosis. Along with this diagnostic testing, Tricat also provides consultation and follow-up treatment of this disease, by a board certified rheumatologist.

Osteoporosis is the slow and progressive process of losing bone mineral, and can result in fractures of the hip or spine causing chronic pain, disability, physical deformity, and loss of independence. Early detection of osteoporosis, aided by Bone Densitometry testing helps to prevent fractures.

TRICAT offers DEXA bone densitometry testing, which is a good first step to determine whether osteoporosis is present. This extremely low-dose radiation technology provides an objective, quantifiable measurement of bone density. It is safe, accurate, non-invasive and painless. The test takes only 15 minutes. A complete report is provided depicting not only bone density compared to others of the same age and sex, but more importantly we compare your results to those of young healthy bone based on nationally accepted standards from the World Health Organization. Ultrasonic bone densitometry achieves similar results as DEXA but utilizes high-frequency sound waves instead of radiation. It is usually employed for first-time Bone Density exams on those not previously screened for osteoporosis. Like DEXA, it is safe, non-invasive, painless, and usually can be done in less than 15 minutes. The report generated for your physician compares your readings with those of matched age/sex groups as well as young healthy bone mineral measurements.
